Pioneering biogas technology.
In 2014, NH Foods was the first Australian beef producer to invest in Global Water & Energy’s (GWE) COHRAL™ (Covered High-Rate Anaerobic Lagoon) technology, a cutting- edge system that significantly reduces our environmental footprint.
Our biogas technology drastically reduces fossil fuel usage and improves discharged wastewater quality.
At our Oakey Beef Exports facility, biogas is captured in the wastewater treatment process. The organic content in the wastewater is converted to biogas, then stored and utilised as a renewable energy source, powering operations and reducing our dependence on fossil fuels.
GWE technology also eliminates up to 90% of organic waste, resulting in cleaner wastewater discharge and reduced GHG emissions and odours.
By adopting this approach, we are not only safeguarding the environment but also setting new sustainability benchmarks for the beef industry. This technology is being implemented at our Wingham and Mackay plants, and we continue to demonstrate that embracing green energy can drive meaningful change and inspire others to follow.
